Electric failure dissatisfaction in Burunee

Thaa Atoll Burunee people have expressed their dissatisfaction over the electricity failures facing the island. Vilufushi people living in the island also joined the protest that took place in the island yesterday.

Reports say that the generators used to provide electricity have been over loaded and that they are not being meeting the demands of the increased population. People of Vilufushi have moved to Burunee after the 3004 tsunami.

Speaking to Velidhoo News, one respondent told that power failure in the island have been for the past few months and that only few measures have been undertaken to improve the situation. Hence, people have expressed their dissatisfaction over the issue on various occasions and are now demanding to take immediate action.

Another informant reported that over use and abuse of electricity by some people have resulted in the power failures. Electricity for the island is provided on a free basis and people are no longer concerned about the ultimate consequences of over-loading.

Ministry of Environment, Energy and Water has reported that a special generator was provided to meet the demands for electricity following the relocation of people from Vilufushi to Burunee after the 2004 tsunami.

Further reports say that another additional generator would be procured soon to facilitate the services in a more effective manner. The Ministry reported that the new generator could be available as early as the beginning of Ramazan.
