Maldives Police reports a total of 26 people have been arrested in connection with the violent disturbances that occurred in the aftermath of the death of Ali Irushan of H. Kubra. Ali Irushan died to injuries received to his body after being attacked by a mob armed with swords, iron bars and knives. The incident took place near WoodApple on Hadheebee Magu at around 10.00 in the evening on last Sunday night.“There are 5 minors below18 years among the 26 arrested” said the Media Officer of Maldives and declined to provide further information saying the investigation is still going on.
The media official of police said the knives, swords , iron rods, wooden clubs and other objects used by the gang to cause damage to public property during the disturbances on Sunday night has been confiscated.
Miadhu has learnt a group armed with swords, knives and iron rods has been hanging around in front of H.Pro Studio and attempted to cause unrest last night. Many residents of the area are very disturbed by activities of the group.
Police has increased their patrolling activities as of Sunday night to curb such outbursts of violence.
