President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has made inquiries over the phone concerning the condition of the people of Fuvahmulah and South Huvadhoo Atoll in the aftermath of the heavy flooding caused due to torrential rain in the respective Atolls.
The Atoll Chief of South Huvadhoo Atoll, Ali Shareef, and Atoll Chief of Fuvahmulah, Ahmed Moosa, briefed President Gayoom about the current situation and explained how the people were coping with it. Both the Atoll Chiefs stated that the islands had been experiencing heavy rains which lead to the flooding of a number of houses. President Gayoom assured that the affected Islands would receive the full support and assistance of the Government in overcoming the present difficulties.
Personnel from Maldivian National Defense Force, Maldives Police Service, and Government Offices, some private companies and associations and the general public have been leading efforts to drain out the waters from residential area and providing aid to the affected.
