Alifushi played a key role in Fisheries Industry- President

President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom yesterday morning said that Alifushi has played a key role in the modernization and development of the fishing industry.

Speaking with the people of Alifushi, President Gayoom highlighted that the carpenters of Alifushi made a valuable contribution to the progress of Maldives. He further said that there were carpenters who were capable of designing their own vessels, and praised them for their services.

During his visit to the island, the President inaugurated Masjidul Hidhaya, a mosque built by AIMS, a society of Alifushi. He then led the noon prayers in the mosque.

President Gayoom thanked the leaders and members of AIMS society, as well as those who contributed to the construction of Masjidul Hidhaya, and noted that mosques were a central and essential part of all Islamic communal life.

Speaking at a ceremony held in the Alifushi School, Atoll Chief of North Maalhosmadulu Atoll, Saud Abdulla said that Alifushi was the second most populated island of the atoll. He noted that the clubs and societies of the island were making numerous contributions to the development of the island.

Upon his arrival, President Gayoom was greeted with a warm reception by officials of Alifushi and other islands of the Atoll, members of different clubs, committees and societies, Government employees and a large number of people from the general public.

President was welcomed with a traditional item presented by the people of Alifushi, and a dance performed by AIMS society.
