Reuter’s news agency has reported that India has allowed export of 17,000 tones of wheat flour to Maldives, an exception from the current prohibition on exports of wheat and wheat products.
The exports will be through state-run MMTC Ltd and State Trading Corporation of India Ltd, Director General of Foreign Trade said in a notification dated Jan. 7, on its Web site according to Reuters.
India is a net wheat importer and doesn't allow export of wheat and wheat products.
State Trading Organization (STO), the leading importer of Rice and flour to Maldives controlled sale of rice in Maldives in 24th December 2007 and later controlled sale of flour. But control of these staple foods was released on 3rd January.
Maldives imports rice and flour mainly from India.
