KD distributes funds for parties

Commissioner of Elections has distributed the moneys allocated to political parties in the Government Budget of 2008.

According to Commissioner of Elections, as per the article 23 of the Regulations on Political Parties, 40 % of the Rf.11, 998,421 from the state funds, to be distributed among the registered political parties operating in the country has been distributed Tuesday. Commissioner of Elections also revealed that the remaining 60% of the will be distributed depending on the memberships of the parties when the 2008 government was approved by the Majlis.

Commissioner revealed that 40 % to be distributed equally among the 7 registered Party operating in the country was Rf. 4,795,368.41. In this regard each of the 7 parties received a sum of Rf.685, 052.63 revealed the Commissioner.

Commissioner further revealed that the total sum of money received from the state funds to Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) was Rf. 2,487,724.99 and Rf.3, 668,558.93 to Dhivehi Rahyithunge Party (DRP). Commissioner also revealed that Adhaalath Party received a total of Rf.1, 272,731.25 while Islamic Democratic Party (IDP) received Rf.1, 403,800.94. Maldivian Social Democratic Party (MSDP) received Rf.1, 112,421.50 and Rf.1, 046,515.36 to People’s Party. Commissioner also informed that Maldivian National Congress received Rf.996, 668.03.

Elections Commissioner also revealed that the membership of DRP was 32141. MDP’s membership stood at 19420 while IDP had 7743 members. Adhaalath Party had 6331 members and MSDP had 4604 members. Commissioner also revealed that People’s Party had a membership of 3894 while Maldivian national Congress Party’s membership stood at 3357.
