Private schools in Male’ have said that the number of students studying in those schools have decrased as the standard of schools in the atolls have improved.Regarding the matter, the principal of Madhrasathul Ahmadhiyya Mohamed Rasheed said that the reason for decline in number of students is that standard of schools within the atolls have improved. He said that there is still seat available for students of grade 6, 7, 8 and 9. He said that a student will get opportunity to join Ahmadhiyya after checking the standard of the student. Rasheed said that the reason for checking the standard of the student is to maintain the standard of the school at the same level.
Assistant Headmaster of EPS School, Mohamed Shareef said that they don’t get more students as standard of education in atolls have improved. He also said that it is useless to spend so much and come to Male’ if quality education is available from the atolls.
Shareef further said that this year also, they got the targeted amount of students although the number of students were less when compared to last year. He said that it had been long since there had been the thinking to change EPSS to an International School and the problem of getting less students will be resolved then. He said that those going for higher studies abroad would be less if that happens.
“Then, not only students who don’t get seat from government schools will come here. Students will come from Aminiya, Majeediya, Dharumavantha etc. All parents will want their children to get quality education. They don’t have to leave the parents and this country and go abroad” Shareef said.
