MDP condemns stab attempt on Gayoom

MDP has said that accusing and apportioning blame on political parties without due consideration is neither good for the peace and security of country nor for national stability of the country. MDP said this in a press statement released to condemn the stab attempt on President Gayoom last Tuesday.

The Press statement said that MDP condemned the attempt by Mohamed Murshid/Kinara, Haa Alif Hoarafushi to stab President Maumoon last Tuesday morning.

MDP neither accepted nor encouraged any kind of violence, but are working to implement a just judicial system and to protect the human rights of the people said the press statement. The press statement also said that MDP was working to establish a government which fully abides by the constitution and respects the rights of the people as well as full fills the needs of the people. The press release also stated MDP was a party which works to obtain and protect the rights of peace loving people. MDP states that the party was not a party which supports violent extremism or radical views but believed in peaceful dialogue to bring meaningful reform to the country.

The press release noted that the reasons why such action occurs in the country are the lack of justice and disregard to rules and regulations by President Gayoom and his government. Further press release said that President Gayoom and his government’s misuse of government funds and natural resources for the betterment of his party.

The press release noted that the status quo of the country is such that it has come to stage where the people’s despair and frustration has led to the President being assaulted with a knife. The Press release noted that this was a regrettable incident and a sad state of affairs which has caused concern among the people.

In conclusion the Press release said MDP was not a party which supports violent extremism or radical views but believed in peaceful dialogue to bring meaningful reform to the country.
