President thanks people of Dhidhdhoo

President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom yesterday thanked the people of Dhidhdhoo for their work to safeguard their island from narcotic drug users. He noted that Dhidhdhoo was a completely drug free island.

Speaking with the people of Dhidhdhoo yesterday afternoon, President said that the biggest threat facing our nation today is that of narcotic drugs. He further said that Dhidhdhoo had become a drug free island due to the collaborative effort of the people of the island against narcotic drug users.

President Gayoom was warmly welcomed on arrival in Dhidhdhoo with two songs presented by the children of North Thiladhunmathi Atoll Education Centre.

In his speech, President thanked the people of Dhidhdhoo for their warm reception and said that he appreciated their patriotism.

President Gayoom spoke about his Democratic Reform Agenda and said that the Maldivian Government is continuing this programme without any influence or pressure from external sources.

Speaking at a ceremony held in the North Thiladhunmathi Atoll Education Centre, the Island Chief of Dhidhdhoo, and Adam Saeed said that all the visits made to Dhidhdhoo by the President had been beneficial and very successful.

After concluding his visit to Dhidhdhoo President Gayoom arrived in South Thiladhunmathi Atoll Hanimadhoo later this evening. He was greeted by the officials of the island, members of different committees and a large number of people from the general public.

The people of Hanimadhoo welcomed the President with a traditional item.
