Report: Jaxu
MP for Alif Dhaalu Atoll Ilyas Hussain has said that considering the present status quo of the country, a leader for a revolution is necessary. He made statement while speaking at the session of the Special Majlis held yesterday.
He said that while some Members refer the chapter as transitional chapter, he would prefer to use the word revolutionary instead of transitional. He called on to form a “committee on revolution” and to appoint a leader to deal with the revolution. He further said if the Speaker of the Special Majlis Qasim does not use the powers of his office to establish such a committee then that would be considered as betrayal to the nation.
“There are situations in Islam when pork is allowed, circumstances now demand that we appoint a leader to deal with the revolution” said MP Ilyas.
First half of the yesterday’s session was mostly spent on raising points of order. Opposition members were insisting that Majlis should hold debate on the chapter on transition ahead of chapter on the President. DRP Members were arguing that Majlis should first hold debate on the President’s Chapter and follow on to the chapter on transitional government.
After the break, Chair commenced work on the addendums of the constitution. In this regard addendums containing oaths and administrative offices were presented and debate commenced. One amendment was proposed to the addendums. Ammendment proposed by MP for Meemu Atoll Mohamed Shafeeq and suppoted by MP for Hdh. Atoll Ahmed Adhil proposes to include the oath of the Atoll Chief to the amendment.
Chair opened the floor for debate and allocated 30 minutes debate time. When the Majlis was adjourned, Members were still waiting to speak on the addendums.
Special Majlis will meet again today.
