Ministry of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has called for urgent consideration on the negative impacts of climate change on human development. He made the statement while speaking on negative impacts of climate change on the poor and disadvantaged people of the world at the World Bank sponsored meeting in Bali.
Minister Shahid called for urgent consideration on the devastating impacts of climate change on human development at a time when the international community is working towards an agreement which would lead to a solution on the issue global warming.
Minister Shahid reminded the participants of the Conference on the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change that the impacts of devastation caused by climate change seriously affect human development. Continuing with is address Shahid said the climate change is a by product of human development and its effect is more evident on the world poor countries and its people.
Shahid at the Summit of the Small Island States held in Male’ declaration on effects of climate change on human development was reached. He said effects of climate change were 3 fold. They were according to Minister Shahid, effects on human rights, effects on human development and effects on humans.
In this regard Minister noted that the objective of Male’ Declaration was to bring the effects of climate change on human rights and human development to global focus.
