Jaisham a national hero – President

President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom speaking in Huvarafushi of Ha Atoll yesterday morning has declared the young Boy Scout Jaisham, who saved him, a national hero. Jaisham a 16 year old boy scout saved the President from the assailant Mohamed Murushid who wanted to stab the president with a knife.

Addressing the people of Huvarafushi yesterday President Gayoom expressed his regrets over injuries sustained by Jaisham in the incident and said “By the grace of Almighty Allah, I am well and safe, but severe injuries have been inflicted on to brave young man of this island, that is Mohamed Jaisham, he is a very person, a true hero, I sincerely thank him and his family and I pray to Almighty Allah to grant him speedy recovery” said President Gayoom.

“Further I would like to assure the people of Maldives, that by the grace of Almighty Allah, that I will remain steadfast in the service of the people, my resolve will not be deterred by such acts, I will continue to discharge the responsibilities the people of the country entrusted me with and I would like assure all that if I am elected again to serve as the President that I will continue to work for the people in the resolve” continued President Gayoom.

President warned that if the assailant was successful it would have caused major unrest in the country.

“Our peace and harmony existent in our society would have been lost, we would be faced with sad and dark days, government will fully investigate the incident and bring all involved to justice” said President Gayoom.

President also urged the people to remain calm and not to take matters in to their own hands.

“I would like everybody to remain calm and not to indulge in any act on behalf of the government or my own behalf, It is not what I want, I want all the people of this country to remain calm and to patient, there are many people working against the government using various slogans and words in many forms for various reasons, actually they are only a few when compared to the population of the country, the majority of the people supports the government, in Maldives things will go according to the wishes of the majority” said Gayoom.
