MDP condemns police action in Dhihdhoo

Haa Alif Regional Branch of MDP has strongly condemned the action of some 300 Maldivian police officers who unlawfully attempted to disperse large amounts of crowds gathered to express their views regarding the President Gayoom’s recent visit to Dhihdhoo.

According to Haa Alif Regional Brach of MDP the 6 arrested by the police are Faruhadh Aboubakar, Faseeh Aboubakar, Mohamed Aboubakar, Abdulla Waheed, Ubaidhulla and Ali Hashim. Haa Alif Regional Branch claimed that Faseeh Aboubakar was badly injured as he was severely beaten up the police officers. According to MDP Brach of Haa Alif Faseeh will be shifted to Kulhdhuhfushi after being treated at Dhihdhoo Hospital and that information regarding his ill health was not duly transmitted to his family.

Regional MDP branch of Haa Alif call on the government not exert any force on those expressing their opinion and reminded the government that freedom of expression was a basic right of every individual.
