Maldives Police Services has revealed that Mohamed Murshid, 20 years of Kinaaraa / Haa Alif Huvarafushi attempted to attack President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom upon his arrival to the island of Huvarafushi yesterday morning.
According to police Murushid used a sharp object to attack the president. Police also said the incident occurred while the President was being welcomed by the islanders at around 1040 am yesterday.
Investigation in to the case is currently underway by Serious and Organized Crime Unit of Criminal Investigation Department reports Maldives Police.
