Uthuru Arumazu completes tour

The expedition of Uthuru Arumaz which commenced on the first of this month completed their tour of north of Maldives and returned back to Male’ yesterday evening.

Speaking to Miadhu, the main opposition leader, Chairperson of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Mohamed Nasheed (Anni) said that the expedition to the north Maldives was a huge success and a good omen.

Anni said the objective of the Uthuru Arumaz expedition was to gain support for the formation of a transitional government was very successful. He said that all islands expect Meedhoo of Raaa Atoll gave tremendous support to the cause of the National Unity Alliance.

“All islands except Meedhoo gave a lot of support to interim government” said Anni.

Chief Spokesperson of the National Unity Alliance, Dr. Shaheed said that the expedition of Uthuru Arumaz made to highlight the importance of a transitional arrangement was well received by the people. He also noted that all islands except Meedhoo gave a lot of support. Dr. Shaheed also indicated that a lot of signatures have already been collected and the Alliance was planning such expedition to other atolls as well.

The Uthuru Arumaz expedition was well received by all islands except Raa Atoll Meedhoo. The opposition Alliance cancelled their rally to be held in Meedhu School hall due lack of supporters. However Alliance addressed the people of Meedhoo on the street outside the school.

Uthru Arumaz completed its journey and returned Male’ on yesterday evening at 1700 hours. A large crowd of approximately 500 people gathered to welcome the return of Uthuru Arumaz.
