Member of Parliament for Addu Atoll Ibrahim Shareef (Mavota) has claimed that some people tried to kill him as he arrived to Male’ from Male’ International Airport.
MP for Addu Atoll Ibrahim Shareef on arrival from the Male’ International Airport to Male’ on ferry was attacked and pushed in to the sea. MP Shareef in the incident received severe injuries.
Speaking to Miadhu MP for Addu Atoll said that when he stepped on the jetty from the airport ferry, 3 people pushed him in to the sea and as he fell he had to use his hands to avoid possible injury to his head. MP Shareef said that in the process his fingers sustained injuries.
“As soon as I came on to the jetty some people came and pushed me in to the sea, they actually wanted to kill me, and to avoid my head from hitting the retaining wall, I had to use my hands, now my hands are severely injured, even my head has sustained injuries” said MP Shareef, member of DRP parliamentary group. He further revealed that he had to swim across and was pulled up on to another ferry nearby.
“I swam across to another jetty and was pulled up by the crew, blood was coming out from my head injury, this is a planned, premeditated attempt” said Shareef speaking via telephone to Miadhu on his way to the hospital. Member of Parliament Shareef said that he lost his sun glasses and foot wear in the incident.
In recent years MP Shareef was assaulted several times and each time Shareef sustained several injuries.
Yesterday Maumoon Abdul Gayoom President of Maldives survived an assassination attempt. Condemnations of the acts are pouring in from across the country as well as from friendly leaders of neighboring countries. Many in Addu believe the terror attack on MP Sharref and President Gayoom should be condemned in the strongest possible words.
