Noora Ali, Assistant Director at Information Ministry has said that the Ministry is working hard to establish “Government Information Press Services” department within the ministry and the function of Chief Spokesperson will be transferred to that department.
Noora said the function of the Strategic Communications Unit, SCU, under President’s Office will be transferred to the ministry within the next 2 months.
Noora says that the ministry is considering hiring a foreign national to the position of Chief Spokesperson however she points out a Maldivian will have to brief the local media.
“We are considering hiring a foreign national to handle international relations, however a Maldivian will handle local issues” said Noora
Former Chief Spokesperson speaking to Velidhoo News has said that he stepped down because his work was causing conflict with the Information Minister.
So far only 2 people have held the position of Chief Spokesperson since the position was introduced. They are former Foreign Minister Dr.Shaheed and Mohamed Hussain Shareef, Mundhu, the recently resigned Chief Spokesperson.
