Report: Soodh
Managing Director of Maldives Tourism Development Coorperation, MTDC, Mohamed Solih has said that the committees, organizations and officials of the Addu Atoll are not working adequately to provide information on the job opportunities available at Herethere Resort to the people of the Atoll.
MD Solih speaking to Velidhoo News from Herethere on last Saturday said that he believes that the senior atoll officials, organizations and committees should find out the job opportunities available at Herethere and make the information available to people of the atoll so that they may be employed in the resort.
“I believe that while an investment of this size is going on the officials of the islands, atoll committees, and others should check and see what kind of project this is, how the project is going on, what can be done for the benefit of the people of each island, what are opportunities available for the people of the atoll and provide these information to them; none of that is happening here; there is no coordination, may be they are waiting for us to come inform them these are the jobs available; we working very hard to meet the deadline; we don’t have time to go and do all that; there is no political agenda here” said MD Solih speaking to Miadhu from Herethere Resort.
It is rumored that most of the top positions of Herethere is given to foreigners. Chairmen of MTDC Champa Hussain Afeef told Velidhoo News that when Herethere opens 65 % of the staff would Maldivians. He said that a total of 1000 staff would be directly or indirectly involved with running of the resort and out of that approximately35% would be foreigners. He further said although some section heads may be of foreign nationality, their assistants would be Maldivian.
Afeef noted that with the opening of the resort, the people of the Atoll would reap huge benefits.
Although the all construction work may not be completed before the opening scheduled for next month, rooms and other facilities required for a comfortable stay are complete explained Afeef.
When the construction is complete Herethere Resort will accommodate 600 beds. Herethere is the first resort that is developed by MTDC.
