Former Attorney General, AG, Dr. Hassan Saeed has said that he would compete for the presidency in the coming elections scheduled for next year. He made the statement in an interview given to The Independent of UK.
According to the tabloid’s website ex AG along with two other colleagues, ex justice minister Mohamed Jameel and ex foreign minister Ahmed Shaheed have already established contact with other parties including the main opposition, the Maldivian Democratic Party, MDP, with the aim of presenting a united front.
The three ex ministers are currently in London meeting with parliamentarians and the Maldivian community in London reports the website. The website further reports that the 3 ex ministers are scheduled to meet Foreign Ministry officials.
Providing his views on the growing Islamic extremism in the Maldives former AG Dr. Hassan Saeed told the Independent that the government must be held responsible for the status quo of the Islamic extremism in Maldives.
"The fact is it is in the repressive nature of this government that they are trying to use the attack to blame the pro-democratic forces. I know for a fact that the government was warned about the dangers of rising Islamic fundamentalism and we put together an action plan to combat it. This was presented to the President seven months before the attack and they failed to act on it” told Dr. Hassan Saeed to The Independent.
The ex ministers claimed that they had been subjected to intimidation and threats since they announced their resignation. Mr Saeed said: "Our offices were broken into and documents removed. Our houses have had paint thrown at them and we have received threats” reports Independent’s website.
The 3 ministers who resigned from government last August are still members of the ruling Dhivehi Rayithunge Party, DRP. While ex AG Dr. Hassan Saeed is one of the Vice Presidents of DRP, ex Justice Minister Jameel is a member of the executive council of the party.

އިގިރޭސިވިލާތުގެ ނޫހެއް ކަމަށްވާ ދި އިންޑިޕެންޑްސްގައި ހަސަން ސައީދު ވިދާޅުވެފައިވަނީ އަންނަ އަހަރުގެ ރިޔާސީ އިންތިޚާބުގައި މައުމޫނާ ވާދަ ކުރައްވާނެ ކަމަށާއި އެގޮތުން އެ ކަމަށް ޕާޓީތަކުގެ ތާއީދު ހޯދަމުންދާކަމަށެވެ
” މިސްޓަރ ސައީދު ވަނީ މައުމޫނާ ދެކޮޅަށް އަންނަ އިންތިޚާބުގައި ކުރިމަތިލައްވާނެ ކަމަށް ވައުދުވެވަޑައިގެންފައި. އެންމެން ގުޅިގެން މީހަކު ކުރިމަތިލުމަށް ކުރީގެ ތިން މިނިސްޓަރުންވަނީ އެމްޑީޕީ ހިމެނޭ ގޮތަށް އެހެން ޕާޓީތަކާއެކު ގުޅުންބަދަހިކޮށްފައި“ އިންޑިޕެންޑެންސްގައި ބުނެފައިވެއެވެ
މިއަހަރު މެދުތެރޭގައި ސަރުކާރުގެ ވަޒީރުކަމުން އިސްތިއުފާ ދެއްވާފައިވާ ޑރ.ހަސަން ސައީދާއި މުހައްމަދު ޖަމީލުގެ އިތުރަށް ޑރ.އަހުމަދު ޝަހީދާ ހަވާލާދީ އެސައިޓްގައި ބުނެފައިވަނީ އެތިންމީހުން ނާމޫނާއަކަށް ބަލައިގެން އަންނަ އަހަރުގެ ރިޔާސީ އިންތިޚާބުގެ ކުރިން ގިނަ ވަޒީރުންތަކެއް ސަރުކާރުން އިސްތިއުފާ ދޭނެ ކަމަށެވެ
އެ ސައިޓްގައި ބުނެފައިވަނީ އިސްތިއުފާދެއްވި ތިން ވަޒީރުން މިހާރު އިގިރޭސިވިލާތުގައި ހަރަކާތްތެރިވަމުން ގެންދަވަނީ އެގައުމުގެ ޕާލެމެންޓްގައި ހިމެނޭ ރާއްޖެ ތަމްސީލުކުރާ މެންބަރުންނާ ބައްދަލު ކުރުމަށެވެ. އަދި މިއަދުގެ ވަގުތެއްގައި އިނގިރޭސި ވިލާތުގެ ޚާރިޖީ އޮފިޝަލުންނާ ބައްދަލު ކުރައްވާނެކަމަށްވެސް އެވެބްސައިޓުގައި ބުނެފައިވެ އެވެ
މިކަމާ ގުޅިގެން މިތިން ބޭފުޅުންނާ ގުޅުމަށް ކުރި މަސައްކަތް މިއަދު ވަނީ ކާމިޔާބު ކުރެވޭގޮތް ނުވެފައެވެ. މި ތިންބޭފުޅުން މިމަހުގެ 20 ވަނަ ދުވަހު އިގިރޭސިވިލާތަށް ފުރާވަޑައިގަތީ އެތިން ބޭފުޅުން އުފައްދާފައިވާ ޖަމްއިއްޔާއެއް ކަމަށްވާ އޯޕަން ސޮސައިޓީ އިގިރޭސިވިލާތުގައި ޕްރޮމޯޓް ކުރުމަށެވެ. މިތިން ބޭފުޅުންގެ ދަތުރުފުޅުގައި އިނގިރޭސި ސަރުކާރުގެ ބައެއް އިސްފަރާތްތަކާއި ސިޔާސީ ދާއިރާ ބޭފުޅުންނާއި އީޔޫގެ އިސްވެރިންނާއި ކޮމަންވެލްތުގެ އިސްވެރިންގެ އިތުރުން އަމިއްލަ ޖަމިއްޔާތަކާއި ނޫސްވެރިންނާ ވެސް ބައްދަލުކުރެއްވުމަށް ހަމަޖެހިފައިވާ ކަމަށް އެބޭފުޅުންވަނީ ވިދާޅުވެފަ އެވެ. އަދި ރާއްޖޭގެ ސިޔާސީ މަސްރަހްގެ ކަންތައްތަކާއި އެބޭފުޅުން އިސްތިއުފާ ދެއްވި ސަބަބާއި އިސްލާހީ އެޖެންޑާގެ ހާލަތުގެ އިނގިރޭސިވިލާތުގެ އިސްފަރާތްތަކަށް އޮޅުން ފިލުވައިދޭނެ ކަމަށް އެބޭފުޅުން ވަނީ ވިދާޅުވެފަ އެވެ
މިތިން ބޭފުޅުންގެ ތެރެއިން ޑރ.ހަސަނާއި ޖަމީލު އޮގަސްޓްމަހުގެ 5 ވަނަ ދުވަހު އިސްތިއުފާދެއްވާފައި ވަނީ އިސްލާހީ އެޖެންޑާ ފެއިލްވެފައިވާ ކަމަށް ވިދާޅުވެ އެވެ. ޑރ. އަހުމަދު ޝަހީދު އިސްތިއުފާދެއްވާފައި ވަނީ ރައްޔިތުންގެ މަޖުލީހުގައި އެމަނިކުފާނަށް އިތުބާރުނެތްކަމުގެ ވޯޓެއް ނެގުމަށް އެއްދުވަހަށް ވެފައިވަނިކޮށެވެ
