MDP wins majority in IDC elections - MDP

Maldivian Democratic Party, MDP, has revealed in the elections of Island Development Committees, IDC, held in the atolls on 27 of this month, a clear majority was won by the party members.

According to MDP, majority of the candidates who competed in the election IDC were MDP members. The party says that many of them won their seats in IDC. Although MDP did not officially compete in the elections, the party says that 60% of the elected IDC seats are won by MDP members.

The independent Committee charged with overseeing of the election said that more than 3400 candidates competed in the elections that were held in all inhabited islands of the country. According to the Committee 184 IDC comprising a total 1500 members will be elected.

Although MDP says that the party has a majority in the IDC no other party has made any comment.
