MDP reveals names for parliamentary group

The Secretariat of Maldivian Democratic Party MDP has revealed names proposed for the positions of the parliamentary group of the party.

According to the party’s website Thaa Atoll Member for Special Majlis as well as Member of Citizen’s Majlis Hassan Afeef is competing for the position of the President of the Parliamentary Group. Maria Ahmed Didi Member of the Special and Citizens Majlis for Kaafu Atoll are competing for Vice President.

Meemu Atoll Member Ahmed Shafeeq, Sappey, is competing for the Position of Secretary General.

2 Members are competing for Parliamentary Whip; they are Laamu Atoll Member Moosa Maniku and Lhaviani Atoll Member Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Male’ Member for the Citizens Majlis Mohamed Shihab who is not competing for any position in the Parlimentary Group says that he is not competing as believes in providing the chance to others. Mohamed Shihab is the current President of the Parliamentary Group. “I would like to offer my sincere gratitude for the support given during my 2 year term” said Shihab.

The announcement to hold elections to members for the positions of the Parliamentary group was first announced by Party Chairperson Mohamed Nasheed, Anni,at a party gathering held on the 26 of September 2007.

Positions to be elected include the President, Vice President, Secretary General, Deputy Secretary General and Parliamentary Whip. It is reported that nobody wants to compete for Deputy Secretary General.
