Adhaalath calls for action against Dr. Afrashim

Adhaalath Party has called on all Maldivians to be wary of Dr. Afrashim Ali’s comments made on variety show Hehyanboah aired by Television Maldives on last Friday afternoon.

In the variety show Hehyamboah aired by TVM every Friday afternoon Dr. Afrashim said that singing is not against the principles of Islam and that he himself is keen vocalist. To support his statement Dr.Afrashim cited examples from Islamic history.

He said that during a Muslim festival Ayesha beloved wife of Prophet Mohamed was entertained by a group of vocalists. Abubakar father of Ayesha who later became the first Imam of the Moslem Ummah tried to stop her but Prophet Mohamed himself came out and reminded Abubakar that it was festive days and to let it continue. Dr. Afrashim highlighted that during the War of the Trench when Muslims were faced with great many difficulties Prophet Mohamed ordered one of his Shahabi’s to encourage muslim warriors to sing so as to raise their spirits and courage. Dr.Afrashim says that even Prophet Mohamed joined in.

However the Council of Religious Scholars of the Adhaalath Party says that Dr. Afrashim’s contradicts many of the verdicts of Islamic Shria
“ The Council of Religious Scholars believes that many of the talks given by Dr. Afrashim lends support to many evils prohibited in Islam, we call up on all of our beloved youth and all of our citizen to wary of Dr. Afrashim’s talks and not to be persuaded by his thinking.

Press Release called on the Supreme Council on Islamic Affairs to up hold the Councils’s Regulations by taking action against Dr.Afrashim as he is not authorized by the Council to give public sermons. The Press Release also called on Dr. Afrashim to fear Allah and to refrain from giving speeches that violates the main stream Islamic beliefs.

Velidhoo News contacted Dr. Afrashim Ali regarding the issue, but Dr. Afrashim has declined to provide any comment saying he would provide an interview to Miadhu within the week.

Dr.Afrashim Ali is a graduate of Islamic University in Malaysia and holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Islamic Sharia. He spent nearly 13 years in Malaysia studying.
