Report: Soodh

MDP Chairperson Mohamed Nasheed, Anni, has admitted to having discussions at the president’s office.

Answering a question from Adnan Haleem Member of the Executive Committee of MDP, Anni said that he held discussions with Aneesa Ahmed Minister at President Office. However he denied allegations that the meeting with Aneesa was held without the knowledge of MDP.

Anni said during the meeting discussions were held on finding mutual ways to expedite constitutional reform process. Anni also claimed that talks included the release of approximately 700 MDP members arrested on different occasions.

MDP President Dr.Munnawar speaking toVelidhoo News Service on 22 October said that he was not informed of the meeting.

When contacted by Velidhoo News on the issue, Anni, did not deny having met a top official of the President but he refused to offer any comment. Anni further expressed his displeasure on the news item printed in Velidhoo News of 22 October.

Top official of President Gayoom Aneesa Ahmed said that during the meeting discussions were held on finding mutual ways to expedite constitutional reform process.

Speaking to Velidhoo News Aneesa said “this meeting is a result of Anni’s request made on last Monday to meet the President, however due to prior engagements President could not meet Anni, Anni then said he would meet a presidential appointee, so I met him; during the meetings discussions were held very freely on what both parties can do to achieve deadline of end November for the constitutional reform”.

MDP President Dr.Mohamed Munnawar speaking to Velidhoo News on 22 of this month said that it is difficult to believe that Anni would hold talks with an appointee of the President.

“Chairperson of the party, on behalf of the party, cannot hold discussions without first meeting the national governing council of the party” said Dr.Munnawar.
