DRP and MDP work on constitution amendments

Maldives Democratic Party, MDP and Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party, DRP has informed that the Special Majlis members representing both parties as well as the parliamentary group members of both parties are working hard to finalize the amendments to the chapters of the draft constitution.

DRP spokesman Ibrahim Shafiu said that the party members representing the Special Majlis are working on two-shifts to complete the reviewing of the chapters. He said that members are going through the chapters thoroughly and that he is hopeful that the constitution would be amended soon.

MDP also reported that members of the party representing the Special Majlis are working in the same spirit and that amendments required have been identified and that it would be proposed during the discussions.

Peoples Special Majlis has already passed the first clause of the first Chapter of the constitution. The clause was passed after considering several amendments proposed by members. The chapter on Bill of Rights comprehensively deals with the rights and freedom of the people.

Delays in finalizing the constitution had been a concern for a long time. However, it seems now that all parties are working towards achieving the goal as soon as possible. Members also have expressed their satisfaction of the present speed of the progress.
