Report: Soodh

President Qasim’s decision to grant 2 days came as a result of a number of members raising points of order at the 177 session of the Special Majlis. Members started raising points of when he informed the Majlis that some amendments proposed by some members were unacceptable as these were not submitted in accordance with the Rules of Procedures, i.e. without supporting signatures.
In a letter sent to the Members on last Tuesday President of the Special Majlis has said that those amendments submitted by the Members without supporting signatures for the 4 chapters of the revised Constitution drafted by Drafting Committee, may come to secretariat of the Majlis during official working hours on coming Sunday and Monday to submit supporting signatures for their respective amendments.
Haa Dhaalu Atoll Member, Ahmed Sameer speaking to Velidhoo News on the subject said he believes that if the President of the Majlis had made a ruling to that effect within the Majlis time then it would been all right, however now it looks as though the President is not setting a good example to the Members by disregarding the Rules of Procedure.
Sameer also says the main problem in this country is that we are unable to follow ‘rule of law’ and that if officials of the government were to interpret the law according to time and place to suit their own purposes then we would never be able to implement proper justice in this country.
He also high lighted that even though President Qasim has granted 2 days for the submission of the required signatures for the amendments, most of the members of the Members of the Administrative Committee prefers not to offer the opportunity to submit the lacking signatures.
