Latest News: Police widens their search for the 2 suspects

Assistant Commissioner of Police , Abdulla Riyaz has said that they have received information the 2 wanted suspects under the explosion probe are in Maldives and that the police have widened their search to cover other areas of Maldives.
The wanted suspects still at large are Abdul Latheef Ibrahim, 24, L. Kalhaidhoo and Ali Shameem, 25, Sh. Komandoo.
According to Mr. Riyaz, police are now conducting searches in Alifu Alifu Himandhoo . At news conference held at the main headquarters of Maldives Police Services Riyaz said that the main reason for the searches in Himandhoo is find out whether there any one who has links to the explosion at Sultan Park in that island. He also said if there is anybody in that island who is violating the Constitution, they would not hesitate to investigate the matter.
While 16 have been arrested in connection with the blast, 5 have been released. This includes 4 Bangladeshi workers and one Maldivian.
“They were released because they had no direct connection to the explosion; they were arrested because it was believed they had a connection to the mobile phones and the sim cards that were used to detonate the home made device; even though the sim cards was purchased under their names we now know they do not utilize it and as such we have released them“, said the Assistant Commissioner.
Assistant Commissioner declined to say how many mobiles and sim cards were used in the blast. He also declined to say whether any more has confessed, other than the 3 who has confessed to carrying out the attack.
In the explosion of 29 September at Sultan Park various injuries were inflicted to 12 tourists. A British couple visiting Maldives on their honeymoon received the more serious injuries. The couple has now been airlifted to UK for further medical treatment.
FBI is now providing assistance to Maldives Police in the investigation.
