Police reveals cctv footage of 2 explosion suspects

Maldives Police have revealed details and cctv footage of the two persons who carried out the explosion in Sultan Park on Saturday which injured 12 tourists. Police have informed at a special news conference held this afternoon that Moosa Inas,20, Finihiyaage, Laamu Kalhaidhoo and Ahmed Naseer,21, Saadhunaa Manzil, GA Kaduhulhudhoo, have confessed they carried out the attack. These two men were arrested from the airport of a neighbouring country on their arrival from Male. Mohamed Sabah, 19 from Male Villingili have also confessed taking part in the attack.

The footage showed Moosa Inas and Ahmed Naseer entering Sultan Park and leaving the place. The footage was taken ten minutes before the explosion. They were seen leaving the place just after the explosion. These details were given by Asst Commissioner of Police Abdullah Riyaz. Riyal did not give any information on the motives of the attack

Police are also looking for two more suspects and have requested assistance of the public to provide any information about them. They are Abdul Latheef Ibrahim Laamu Kalhaidoo and Ali Shameem Shaviyani Komandoo. 14 suspects including two blacksmiths have been arrested so far and Police are continuing a full investigation on the explosion. A team from FBI has already arrived to assist in the probe.

Meanwhile the injured British honeymoon couple, Mr. and Mrs. Donelan has left for Britain today by an air ambulance. They and the other tourists who were injured in the explosion said the government handled the situation very professionally. The British couple said they will return to Maldives.

President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has condemned the attack immediately after the explosion. Political parties of the country and the People's Majlis have also condemned the attack while friendly countries have also joined in condemning and extending support to the government and people of Maldives.

Tour operators and travel agencies together with the Ministry of Tourism are working to recover any loss which may result from the explosion. But according to Tourism Minister Mahmood Shaugy, there are few cancellations and tourist resorts confirm most resorts are full during the start of the tourist peak season.
