Maldivian resolve and courage will not be shaken– Shahid

Minister of Foreign Abdulla Shahid has condemned the detonation at Sultun Park on 29 September and has expressed sympathies to the victims of the blast. He also contacted the Ambassadors of Britain, Japan and China and expressed sympathies to their respective governments and to the families of the victims. Minister Shahid told the ambassadors that the government of Maldives strongly condemns such acts of terror.

Mr. Shahid in his talks with the Ambassadors said the government of Maldives has always strongly condemned such terrorist activities and that this act of terror in the capital Male’ has caused fear and panic among many in Maldives.. The people of Maldives does not encourage such cowardice acts of terror and their resolve and courage will not be shaken by such cowardice acts said the Minister. He also noted that after the incident the whole nation is united in condemning such acts of terror.

Foreign Minister Shahid who is currently in New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly contacted the Ambassadors of these three nations via telephone shortly after the incident. Ambassadors informed Mr. Shahid that their governments also join Maldives in condemning the bomb blast and expressed their gratitude and satisfaction for the speedy care and attention the victims were afforded by the government of Maldives. They also thanked the government of Maldives for speedy and timely manner the information regarding the incident was given and conveyed that their government’s willingness to help the government of Maldives in any manner in connection to the incident.

American and Indian Governments also called Minister Shahid and condemned the bomb blast.
