Health Minister meets Singaporean health officials

Minister of Health Ilyas Ibrahim has met with the Singaporean Health Ministry Officials in Singapore yesterday. During the meeting, Minister discussed on ways to get assistance from Singapore National Healthcare Group to improve and strengthen the services provided at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital.

Singaporean officials have agreed to formulate bilateral agreements to provide assistance in further strengthening the services provided in IGMH. In addition, Singaporean officials are willing to help the development of health sector of the Maldives under a special agreement.

Special areas for help and assistance have already been identified and in due course, an agreement would be finalized.

Earlier this year, President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom visited Singapore and met senior officials and discussed ways of further strengthening the existing relations and requested for technical support from Singaporean authorities for the development of health sector in the Maldives.

This initiative of discussion was part of that visit, according to reports from Ministry of Health. Deputy Minister of Health Dr. Abdul Azeez Yoosuf is also accompanying the Minister on his visit to Singapore.
