No Bangladesh protest yesterday

There were no demonstrations by the Bangladesh community in the Maldives at the Republic square yesterday as reported by some sources. The Square saw groups of foreign workers and others visiting there but no unusual activity was seen. On Thursday Controller of Immigration Ibrahim Shafiu warned if the protest by Bangladesh workers take place, they will be deported.There was news in Male' that a large number of Bangladesh workers have planned to hold a protest at the Republic Square. Bangladesh workers have been angry and concerned about the indiscriminate treatment some of their workers are suffering in the Maldives.

On 19 August a Bagladesh worker was found brutally murdered in Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi and investigations revealed he was killed by a fellow Bangladesh worker, There have been several incidents of violence where some of the workers have suffered.Many of these people say they are suffering from unkind and indiscriminate treatment from some employees. Some of them have reported that they are being attacked by drug addicts and there are reported incidents where valuables and mobile phones stolen.

Bangladesh Foreign Minstry has recently expressed concern about the security of their people in the Maldives. The concerned authorities of the government have condemned the killing of the Babgladeshi worker in Kuhluduffushi and assured of security for the workers in the Maldives.

Bangladesh High Commission has appealed to their citizens in the Maldives to be calm and not to engage in unlawful actions. Bandladesh has more than 20000 workers in the Maldives and they are known to be hardworking.
