His essay on the presidential form of government published in the 180th issue of Adduvas Weekly two years back was not a gesture of support to the system, says Husnu Suood.
The article headed “presidential form of government the most feasible system for Maldives” was only a deliberate attempt to initiate a national debate, says Suood, an MP and a prominent lawyer.
When asked about the rumors that he was a supporter of presidential system of government Suood said “I was not”.
“It was written in 2005. I back parliamentary form of government not because I am under undue influence to do so.” added Suood.
Adhaalath Party, a predominantly religious party that backs presidential system of government, claims that Suood who works with main opposition MDP supported presidential form of government then.
The presidential and parliamentary camps ended their campaigns yesterday at 1800 hours.
