Judge assaults brother-in-law

18 August 2007

Hassan Najeeb, the only judge who works in Vilingili court, has reportedly attacked his brother-in-law.

An eyewitness told Miadhu yesterday evening that the judge was provoked in the middle of a discussion on the system of government suitable for the future of the country.

Following the physical assault of the judge his brother-in-law was taken to hospital for treatment.

The judge’ brother-in-law ‘Hassan’, a supporter of parliamentary system of government, was reportedly requested to abandon a promotional lorry-procession by the former.

“He (the judge) warned Hassan to abandon the lorry procession. However Hassan replied him that he would be home after the end of the procession. However, when I visited a friend in the hospital I found Hassan weeping in the same place. When asked what has happened to him he replied that the judge had beaten on his head.” the eyewitness who identified himself as Haneef told Miadhu.

Miadhu unsuccessfully attempted to get comments from the hospital and the island administrative office.

However an additional islander narrated the incidence similarly to Miadhu.
