MDP will not involve in illegal acts

28 August 2007

MDP spokesperson Maria Ahmed Didi has said that MDP has no connection to those unlawful incidents that are taking place in some parts of the country. Maria said so in response to some questions raised by media personnel regarding a statement issued by DRP. She said while DRP is accusing MDP of carrying out these illegal actions, DRP supporters are engaged in harassing MDP supporters.

Maria said from the creation of MDP, DRP has targeted a series of false accusations on the MDP to discredit the opposition. DRP has been accusing MDP as terrorists and traitors. Defaming MDP is a habit of DRP, Maria said.

“The issue of deciding a system of Government is not a party issue. It’s a decision to be made by the people. It was a vote taken to make this decision of the people. Those accusations in the DRP statement are false. People representing MDP would not do such things. Perhaps these incidents are caused by some people. DRP is carrying out a campaign to blame and defame MDP. They have done this so many times. They can issue any amount of statements, but those will be to no success." Maria said.

She has said DRP's accusation that people have not accepted the party which has intimidated people and forced the people to support them is irrelevant because this is a vote the people has taken for the country. DRP has claimed an overwhelming victory for their choice of presidential system, but opposition MDP has rejected the vote saying the vote was highly rigged.
