Sheikh Ibrahim Fareed has declined to comment on rumors that he had been offered the justice portfolio of President Gayoom’s government.

When asked whether President Gayoom had offered him to head the ministry of justice Fareed requested “Do not ask me the question”.

Fareed openly criticizes the present government on its religious policies which he calls weak.

Recently a website that promotes the present government claimed that Fareed’s suspended permit to promote Islam would be reinstated soon.

However when asked about the permit he said that he was not aware. “So far I am not informed.” Fareed told Velidhoo Community

But Fareed says that people who adore Islam among the public have taken up the issue with the supreme council of Islamic affairs.

He also told Velidhoo Community that he would meet officials to get his license reinstated.

A reliable source told Velidhoo Community that from Ramadan onwards religious scholars like Dr Abdul Majeed Abdul Baree would stop reading from government circulated sermons on Fridays.

Fareed believes that religious scholars should be allowed to lecture congregations freehand.

He hopes that the present government would be lenient on religious scholars in the days ahead.
