An 8-year old boy who attends primary school in Hoadehdhoo, Gaaf Dhaal, has allegedly been molested by a male teacher.
The teacher following his indecent advances has been arrested. An islander told Miadhu that when he was on duty at the powerhouse where he works the teacher first kissed on the child’s face.
“At that moment onwards I began to think that it was not an ordinary relationship” said the islander.
The boy was kissed on his cheek while he was home. Her mother according to the islander was at home but on ‘the other side of the house’ at the time of the indecent act.
The teacher, who delivers lessons on English Language to secondary level classes in the school, earlier lived next to the boy’s house.
The teacher has always been an infrequent visitor to the boy’s house.
Police declined to comment on the case saying that the investigation was going on.
In Maldives, a Sunni Moslem country, child molesters are simply, if found guilty, banished to inhabited islands where children of both sexes live.
According to the office of the attorney general the government plans to introduce harsher punishments to adults who abuse children sexually.
