Confrontation between MDP and Adhaalath increases

07 August 2007

Adhaalath party has strongly accused MDP for destabilizing the party’s general meeting held on August 4, 2007. In a press release by Adhaalath, they said that ‘MDP thugs’ were responsible for the unrest at the meeting.

Adhaalath party says that there were MDP members presented in their general meeting, who obstructed the progress of the meeting, attacked the organizing members and caused the unrest.

“Those thugs who were trying to obstruct the meeting were the members of the secular revolutionary group which is known as MDP and a registered political party. They have entered the meeting and were using filthy words. They have raised the voice inside the meeting. They have done lot of crimes and also degraded Islam and Muslims” said the announcement.

Adhaalath party says that some of them were offered tea and was sent by people who wanted to violate the meeting. Adhaalath party further says that they have been very patient about the actions. They also said that they were able to continue the meeting with some disruptions the agenda was fulfilled with the help of the audience.

“Adhaalath party will stand firmly against those who are trying to introduce dirty politics in the Maldives and destroy the national culture. Adhaalath party will take all the measures with the help of Allah to prevent the government of Maldives going in the hands of such irreligious people.” said Adhaalath party.

Speaking to Miadhu, MDP’s spokesperson Maria Ahmed Didi said that it is not right to blame a party directly for such an act done by some unknown people and it is very difficult for her to accept the condemnation by a party like Adhaalath who are working to increase public awareness on religion.

“Different types of people will attend such meetings. No body is there to identify people of different groups. So a specific party should not be blamed when some people do such a thing” said Maria Ahmed.

Adhaalath party also has blamed MDP saying that they should hold the responsibility for what has happened in the debate organized by Haveeru on last Saturday night.
