Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Ahmed Shaheed has assured that he has not resigned from his Ministerial portfolio. Speaking to Miadhu, Dr. Shaheed denied any rumors about his resignation. There was a wide-spread rumor following the resignation of Attorney General Dr. Hassan Saeed and Minister of Justice Uz Mohamed Jameel Ahmed that Dr. Shaheed has also stepped down.
Dr. Shaheed said that he has not resigned and does not intend to do so. He also said some of the opposition members are pushing for such a move.
Earlier Miadhu has reported about some members of the parliament submitting a proposal to take a no-confidence vote against Foreign Minister Dr. Ahmed Shaheed after MPs failed to support a motion to launch an investigation into Shaheed’s comments that the “Maldives parliament is a failed institution.”
