Minister of Home Affairs Abdullah Kamaaludhdheen has said that it is possible for policemen to vote wearing uniforms. Home Minister said so in a meeting with the MDP shadow Home Minister Moosa Manik (Reeko) and shadow Defence Minister Ameen Faisal on 08th August 2007.
According to a press release by MDP, Mr. Kamaaludhdheen said that he cannot allow policemen to be given information on parliamentary system.
Two shadow Ministers of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) discussed about the government interrupting the rights given by the rules of procedure on public referendum to the people and political parties and providing information on parliamentary system to policemen, with the Home Minister Abdullah Kamaaludhdheen. Mr. Kamaaludhdheen is reported to have said that since policemen have to be in a special way he doesn’t want to create differences among them regarding the system of government.
Press release of MDP asks Home Ministry not to interrupt the rules of procedure of public referendum and campaigning on governmental system is right as they posses under that rules of procedure. MDP also said that they have told the eleven-member committee about this matter.
Maldives will go on a public referendum to decide the future government system to be adopted in the country on 18 August. Policemen and National Defence force members also can vote in the referendum.
