The President has called on the people to use freedom of expression within the limits of Islam. He made the statement in his address at last night’s meeting held at the Islamic Centre to commemorate the Holy Prophet’s Isra and Miraj.

Speaking on the importance of the Isra and Miraj the President said that this journey and ascent of the Prophet had taught us many lessons, among which honesty was most important. He also said that the Miraj ascent was a great miracle that the Almighty had blessed upon the Holy Prophet to reveal his integrity, and that the Prophet was honest in his character. He further said that the Prophet had been truthful all his life and had never deceived anyone.

Highlighting the importance of speaking truth and maintaining honesty, the President cited verses from the Noble Quran. The President stated that deception and spreading of falsehoods is something against the religion of Islam. The President further said that there were restrictions in all forms of freedom and specific responsibilities associated with them. He also said that we should use the freedom of expression in a responsible way.

The President of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Mr. Mohamed Rasheed Ibrahim also spoke at the function. In his speech, he highlighted issues relating to the Holy Journey of Isra and Miraj. He stressed on the importance of performing the five daily prayers and called on the people to fulfill their duty in performing the five daily prayers.

The vote-of-thanks was delivered by the Vice-President of the Council, Mr. Ahmed Farooq Mohamed.
