Tourism Minister saddened to see illegal sand mining

Minister of Tourism Dr. Mahmoodh Shaugee witnessed yesterday a group of people mining sand from the beach of an island (S. Mulikede). This island is an uninhabited island under the Ministry of Tourism. On his trip to observe the work of Herethere, the Minister saw some people loading a boat with sand taken from the beach.

“It’s very sad to see some people taking sand like this from an island that would be a future resort. People of Addu also must take actions to stop this.” Dr. Shaugee spoke to the news reporters while seeing at the people who were taking sand. Dr. Shaugee asked the in-charge of Addu Police Station to stop them from doing such.

Sub Inspector Hamdhoon Rasheed sent policemen to the island and asked them to stop taking sand and leave the island.

No Maldivian should repeat such environment unfriendly actions.
