President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has said that the voting age was amended to increase the role of youth in the national activities, especially in the political reforms of the country. This amendment was made in the ongoing process of the Reform Agenda. He said so while speaking in the ceremony to inaugurate “Kissaru 2007”. President said that it is included in the reform process since 2004.
President further said that the decision of People’s Special Majlis to allow voters of 18 years of age is a great decision taken by them for the future of the country. And he also welcomed the decision.
President mentioned the importance of voting in the referendum to decide which type of governmental system is suitable for the country. So it is important for all the eligible voters to participate in the referendum.
